SS-KNIGHTS OF THE BLACK SUN
In April 1966 a Soviet Yak Jet Fighter overflying the British Sector of Berlin crashed into the Stossensee Lake, not far from the British Military Headquarters. The aircraft is known to have the top-secret Spin Skip radar system, so while British military forces mount a salvage operation; the Russians make an armed incursion into the British Sector to protect their aircraft.
Armed confrontation
A serious armed confrontation at the crash site results in the Russians backing down but being permitted to observe the salvage operation. One of the most spectacular intelligence coups of the cold war was carried out under the watchful gaze of the Soviet observers when various parts of the aircraft were spirited away to the Royal Aircraft Establishment in Farnborough for examination. The Russians plan to retrieve a top-secret and highly critical radar component and send a KGB agent into West Berlin. A sleeper agent at the British Headquarters is activated, while the East German Stasi blackmail a Military Police NCO and his girlfriend into stealing the radar component for them.
Wolf brought in
One of the scientists from Farnborough overseeing the recovery operation discovers that the aircraft component is missing and Sergeant Anthony WOLF; a SIB Investigator is brought in to carry out a covert Investigation. Wolf identifies the perpetrator, but the Stasi eliminate him and his girlfriend before they can provide information.
Gun battle with Stasi
New lines of enquiry lead the Investigators to the spy’s safe house. During surveillance of the targets, Wolf is involved in a gun battle with a Stasi Agent, resulting in the death of four US CID agents and the Stasi Agent. The mounting death toll causes military authorities to set up a joint SIB, US CID and Intelligence task force to identify the members of the Stasi Cell, bring them to justice and stop the aircraft component reaching the East.
